Where in the World is Valerie?
It’s been a wild year!
I was just checking out the webpage this morning and I was astonished that it has been almost a year since I last posted. I have the annoying habit of taking on too much and then there I sit – in the mess. Let’s review!
I didn’t finish my last season as I had planned, nor the Oscars 2024 update, nor watching all of that year’s Oscar nominations. Why? Life, plain and simple.
Like most people who podcast part time, I have a regular day job. As I’ve mentioned a million times, I’m also a musician. So along with being at the desk between 9AM and 6:30PM, I have extracurricular activities that take me late into the evening and even out of state. Add on an aging parent and trying to care long distance, it’s been a trip. Literally, sometimes. The cherry on the top was that I was burnt right out of creating the podcast.
I love movies. I love watching movies. And I haven’t stopped watching them – I just stopped plowing through the AFI/BFI list. And, of course, I’m still watching horror movies with wild abandon. 2024 was a great year for horror movies.
Moving forward there will be a few changes, because my work is not finished. Having talked to a fellow podcaster, she pointed out that I had a LOT of episodes per season. That’s the first thing that I will tone down. Each season, there will be 5 AFI/BFI movie reviews, the 2 special Oscars Best Picture and Best Score nominations episodes and then the season wrap up.
Another change will be more guests! Or, I guess in my case, any guests! I will be grabbing some friends and other folks to help talk about movies we are watching. Not every episode, but certainly more than none per season.
On the blog side, I will post more frequently – letting you know what I’ve been watching, just to keep you up to date. Content may or may not be AFI/BFI or Oscar related, but all of it will be movie related.
What have you been watching? What do you think was the best movie of 2024? Any standouts? And which movie do you expect to win on Sunday night?
